Bird Singing Gourd Ornament from Peru
This Bird Singing gourd carving ornament is a traditional craft of the high Andean Mountains of Peru. Each gourd is skinned, cleaned, and sun-dried before artisans etch and burn the intricate designs that adorn its surface. In addition this gourd / bird has been fitted with a wooden tail.
Birds use songs for a variety of purposes, depending on the season and each individual bird's needs. The most common reasons for birds to sing include: Claiming and Defending Territory, Attracting a Mate, Courtship Duets and General Communication. This bird is singing because he hears his bird friend below playing the guitar.
